We are all connected through time and space. Today we established a Memorial Fund to honor the legacy and values of James N Morgan. James was a talented engineer and athlete who believed physics was the gateway to understand the universe. Through physics, James perceived that everything is connected, and that our experiences are linked not only with each other, but also to the evolution of the universe.
James was born on August 22, 1941 and grew up on a family farm in rural Oklahoma. James and his brother Orus were educated in a small one room schoolhouse with other children of the area, followed by secondary at the local High School. Though both parents received little formal education, they were supportive of James and Orus continuing their education at the University of Tulsa, where James was a top student in engineering physics. James focused his career in nuclear engineering, with steadily increasing responsibilities across several companies, ultimately retiring as Vice President of Engineering for Siemens Power Corporation in the mid-1990s. While at Battelle in the late 1960s, together with his colleagues, James performed clever neutronics designs for the very first commercial reload nuclear fuel proposals, which helped to define the industry and grow the next generation of technology innovation for nuclear power.
Throughout his life, James believed that higher education opens doors for opportunity, and that strong teamwork can achieve great accomplishment. To honor and strengthen these values, we have selected the Tulsa Community Foundation as our partner to manage and perpetuate his estate.
Now we are setting up a scholarship fund, and we look forward to announcing the next steps soon. For those of you who wish to join us in our mission, please click here to learn more.
